William J. Umhoefer, Jr., 82, of Clifton on May 8, 2009. Born in Clifton, he was a life long resident. Bill was an Army Veteran of WW II and served with the 11th Airborne Division as a paratrooper in occupied Japan, and was a Charter Member of the Albion VFW Post # 7165, Clifton. A parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle RC Church, Clifton, Bill was a self employed Contractor and Carpenter for many years, retiring in 1995. Beloved husband for 57 years of Joan (Wolf). Devoted father of Michele Sanicki and her husband Raymond C., Sr., of Clifton, William J, III and his wife Susan of Paterson, Gretchen Handoga and her husband Peter, and Allene Pitak and her husband Joseph all of Clifton. Dear brother of Donald of Pompton Lakes, Edgar of South Carolina, and Shirley McArdle of Phoenix. Loving grandfather of Jennifer Lynn Sanicki and Raymond C. Sanicki, Jr., William J. Umhoefer, IV, and Rachel Umhoefer, Kyle Ryan Handoga, Devyn and Michele Pitak. Funeral Wednesday 10:30 AM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, and 11:30 AM at St. Philip the Apostle RC Church, Clifton, Visiting Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Cremation Private.
