Vasil 'Bill' Jancew
October 12, 1936 - May 3, 2020

83 years ago, born in Chernihiv, Ukraine to Fedor ☦️and Alexandra (Kudlayeva).☦️

Towards the end of WW2, while seeking safety, he and his family had lived in a displaced persons camp in Germany before they immigrated and settled in Caracas, Venezuela. In the mid-1960's he came to the USA where he became an American citizen and then met and married Jaroslawa (Korostil)✝️. He was employed for several years as a welder with Morrison Machine Company in Paterson. In his later years, he was a machine technician with ETI in Irvington.

Vasil was a father to Christina (Iwanik) and Vasil Jancew, Jr. Father-In-Law to Christopher Iwanik and Melissa (Lelo). Grandfather to Gregory and Tatyana Iwanik and Ryan Jancew. He is predeceased by his sister Nina ☦️and brother Nykola☦️. Brother to Anna (Chacon) and Vera as well as an uncle to his nieces and nephews, Lana Chacon, Zina Chacon, Fidel Chacon☦️, Alina Jancew and Andrei Jancew.

He was an avid gardener, chess player, loved watching a good soccer or ice hockey game, enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and also enjoyed winding down his evenings with a good western movie on television. In his youth while living in the displaced persons camp, he was a scout with the PLAST Ukrainian Scouting organization. In his 40's he was a volunteer youth soccer coach with the Ukrainian American Youth Association- Passaic Branch. He was a parishioner at Holy Ascension Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Clifton.

A private family service will be held at Shook Funeral Home in Clifton and at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks friends to consider donating in Vasil's memory directly to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic School, 223 President Street, Passaic, New Jersey 07055. All donations will go directly towards educational programs and student activities.
