Thomas Peter James Gavin, Sr. " Tom ", 89, passed away on August 13, 2017 of natural causes after a good long life. Born in Clifton, NJ, he lived in Washington Township, NJ for many years before moving to and living in Dudley, MA for the last few years.

A graduate of St. John's Cathedral School, Class of 46, Tom played basketball and was named "Class Chauffeur" in his yearbook. After serving in the US Navy during WW II, Tom then attended Seton Hall University, Class of 52. A Produce Buyer for many years, he retired from the US Government Procurement Office at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.

Tom was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus (4th Degree). Tom enjoyed basketball, bowling, and was also an avid golfer his entire life and a long standing NY Yankees and Giants fan.

Tom was the devoted husband of the late Elizabeth Sophie Gavin, and is survived by his children: Thomas P.J Gavin, Jr., (Susan Stone), Susan M. Gavin- (Mario) Leone, Dr. William G. Gavin (Meredith), Martin T. Gavin, and the late Elizabeth C. Yuskaitis (Jeffrey).  Tom was the loving grandfather of eight grandchildren and one recent great-grandchild. Subsequently, Tom was also the devoted husband to Jannet Zanger-Gavin. He was the son of the late Timothy and Susan Gavin, and brother of the late Joseph (Joan), Martin, and Timothy.

Visiting hours will be Saturday 10-11 AM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, followed by a Funeral Mass 11:30 AM at St. Nicholas' RC Church, Passaic. Interment will follow thereafter at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Upper Montclair.
