Ronald Emil Olszowy, Sr., 78, of Clifton. Sunrise April 17, 1946 ~ Sunset January 13, 2025.
Born in Passaic he lived most of his life in Lodi, Passaic, Kinnelon and Little Falls before settling in Clifton 9 years ago. A parishioner of St. Clare's RC Church, Clifton, Ron was aformer St. Clare CYO coach and former President of the St. Clare Home and School association. A Graduate of William Paterson College, Ron was a Recipient of the Polk junior college basketball scholarship.
The Owner and President of Nationwide Bail Bonds on Clifton Ave., Clifton, for over 50 years, retiring in 2022, Ron was also a licensed insurance agent and broker. A US Army Veteran, Ron proudly served his country during the Vietnam War where was stationed at Killeen Base, Texas, with the Defense Atomic Support Agency, and received a field command certificate of achievement from his base commander by extinguishing a fellow soldier whose clothes caught on fire, thus saving his comrade's life. Proud of his Polish Heritage, Ron was the 2003 Marshal for the Passaic, Clifton and Vicinity Contingent in the 66th annual Pulaski Day Parade on Fifth Avenue in New York City.
Ron was both active in the political and community service arenas and was a Board member of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, a former President of the PBUS, was named man of the year by the American Cancer Society, a supporter of the Clifton PBA Local #36, a former member of the Passaic Lions Club, a former member of the Century Club YMCA of Greater Bergen County and a member of the American Legion. Ron loved walking, lifting weights, playing basketball, was an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver, and was a great joke-teller.
Beloved husband for 48 years of Margaret "Marge" (Groner) Olszowy. Devoted father of Linnea Pantaleone and her husband Anthony, and Ronald Emil Olszowy, Jr.. Loving grandfather of Nina.
Visiting Friday, January 17, 2025, 2-6 PM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. Funeral Saturday, January 18, 2025, 8:45 AM at the funeral home and 10 AM at St. Clare's RC Church, Clifton. Interment, East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton.
