Richard John Surdyka, 72, of Passaic, passed away on July 13, 2019. Born and raised in Passaic, Richard lived there for most of his life. After serving in the Army National Guard, Richard followed in the footsteps of his late father, Deputy Chief Peter Surdyka, and joined the Passaic Fire Dept. in 1967. After earning the rank of Lieutenant in 1975, he worked his way up through the ranks, ultimately earning the title of Deputy Fire Chief in 1994, before retiring in 1999. In his free time, Richard was an antique car enthusiast and a member of the Majestic Boat Club, Carlstadt, for over 40 years.

Beloved husband of Marie (Dougherty). Loving stepfather of Scott DuBrow and his wife Lisa of Cedar Grove. Dear brother of Peter Surdyka of Passaic. Cherished son of the late Peter and Anne Surdyka.

Funeral Service Thursday 10 AM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. Cremation, East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton. Visiting Wednesday 4-8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the New Jersey Firemen's Home www.njfh.org in Richard's memory would be greatly appreciated.
