Obituary

Richard O. Hanle, 83, died Thursday, April 1, 2021 at his home in Clifton.  Rich Hanle was born in Passaic NJ and lived his entire life in Clifton NJ.

Rich was a Clifton Mustang through and through and lettered in baseball and basketball.  Rich was an All-State center fielder with the Mustangs and won the Passaic Valley Conference title in 1956.  During his senior year, Rich was offered a scholarship to attend the University of Miami.  Rich turned down the offer and opted to work for his father, (Pops Jefferson Lunch) and play semi-pro baseball locally in North Jersey. He played for 10 years with the Passaic Indians, which included the Clifton Phillies.  In the 70's, Rich ventured out on his own and became a small business owner.

If you knew Rich, the business had to be centered around sports.  With that being said, The Sports Center of Passaic was born.  It was an athletic apparel store that sold Adidas sneakers, uniforms and screen printing. Rich was a basketball referee for 35 years with the Clifton Recreation Department.  Rich also enjoyed playing slow pitch softball in the Clifton Twilight league.  Rich played for many years with and against his son Rich Hanle Jr.  During his softball days he affectionately became known as "Pop".

Lastly, Rich "Pop" Hanle was very proud to serve his country in the Army of the United States.

He is survived by his brother, Fred Hanle; his children Rich Hanle and Kristine Corona; his grandchildren Anna, Paul, Richie and Christian.

A very private Memorial service was held at Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton
