George J. Chopie, Ret. Cpt. CPD, 93, of Clifton, passed away on July 23, 2014. Born in Clifton, he was a lifelong resident. A parishioner of St. Paul's RC Church, Clifton, George, was a Police Captain for the Clifton Police Department where he worked for 32 years, retiring in 1982. A Marines Veteran of WW II, George was one of eighty Marines stationed on the USS Intrepid, when the ship was first commissioned. George is a Plank Owner on the USS Intrepid, a member of the Intrepid Club and a member of American Legion Post #1000. Beloved husband of the late Alice (Doyle) who passed away in 1998. Devoted father of Patricia Gunter of Montville, and Debra Lindsay McIntosh and her husband Newman,"Rusty", of Rocky Point, NC. Loving grandfather of Melissa Gentile, Christina Quiroz and Carly Laha. Cherished great grandfather of Adrianna, Allison, Logan and Christopher. Funeral Tuesday 8:45 AM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, and 10 AM at St. Paul's RC Church, Clifton.
