Reinaldo "Rey"
Aviles
August 10, 2020
Reinaldo "Rey" Aviles was born on August 21, 1970 to the late Justina Riviera and Jose Luis Martinez in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. Rey came to Paterson, NJ as a three year old with his parents and his brothers Angelo and Luis. As a young boy growing up near Garret Mountain in Paterson, Rey was very athletic and loved swimming, baseball, canoeing, kayaking, and hiking. He was also a black belt in karate. He attended East Side High School in Paterson and then he moved back to Puerto Rico with his parents.
As a young adult he moved back to NJ and worked for Winchester Gardens as a maintenance man. He enjoyed working with his hands and loved being a handy man and helping the senior residents. In 2010 he started working for Trinitas Hospital as a mental health worker in the Detox Unit. From there he became a maintenance worker for Elmora Hills where he was employed until the time of his passing.
Rey was a man who loved his family, loved music, video games, and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was passionate about life and loved spending time with his brothers. He called his brother Luis "Tony" his "partner in crime" and often relied on him for support and advice. Rey was a man who loved anyone who was good to his family. He was the defender and muscle of the family and would come to their aid in any situation. Rey was like a "super hero". He defended those he loved fiercely and passionately. He was the ultimate friend who would come to the aid of anyone who needed help.
Rey was a Christian who believed in and loved the Lord. He made time each day with Lissette to pray before leaving for work. He began his day reading Psalm 23 and then a different chapter in the book of Psalms.
Rey departed this life suddenly on Monday, August 10, 2020. He leaves behind to mourn his passing, the love of his life Lissette Lara, brothers Angel Aviles, and Luis Aviles, daughter Vanessa Jasmine Aviles, granddaughter Jiselle Antonia Vega, grandmother Maximina Aquino, as well as a host of other cousins and friends.
