Obituary

Nadia (Wolosko) Zawada, 77, of Clifton, passed away on September 19, 2018. Born in Ukraine, she lived most of her adult life in Northern NJ.

Nadia exhibited throughout her life the type of perseverance and strength possessed by few, and envied by many. Having grown up as a little girl in war-torn Ukraine in the 1940s and having endured the forced Soviet migration of ethnic Ukrainians to Poland post-World War II, she immigrated alone as a young woman to the US in 1965, and shortly thereafter met the love of her life, Peter, a Ukrainian-American and United States Army veteran.

As parishioners of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church and active members of the greater Ukrainian-American community, together they raised their family to be ardent American patriots, while simultaneously never forgetting their Ukrainian heritage.

Nadia bested breast cancer twice, and further overcame two open-heart surgeries, before finally succumbing to cancer-induced respiratory failure. Through it all, she embodied equal amounts of grace and courage, while displaying an unflinching air of selflessness towards her family. She was an unparalleled role model for her children.

Beloved wife for 48 years of the late Peter who passed away in 2016. Devoted mother of Natalie Gribbin and her husband James of Garden City, NY, John Zawada and his wife Robin of Mountain Lakes, and the late Peter Zawada, Jr. Loving grandmother of Liam and Calum Gribbin, and Dean and Karolina Zawada. Dear daughter of Rozalia Wolosko of Clifton, sister of Irene Iwanyszyn of Paterson and Stanley Wolosko of Clifton.

Funeral Tuesday 8:45 AM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, and 10 AM at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Passaic. Interment, East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton. Visiting Monday 4-8 PM at the funeral home, Parastas at 6:30 PM.
