Mieczyslaw Gujda, 74 died on Wednesday, May 30, 2012. Born on April 13, 1938 in Zurawiczki, Poland, to Jan Gujda and Maria Solek, Mietek attended boarding school in Rzeszow and then pursued a Masters in Engineering at Warsaw Polytechnic. He met his wife of 34 years, Alina Rokicki, while living in Warsaw and emigrated to the US in 1976 where they were married the following year. They settled in Elmwood Park where they raised two sons, Tomasz and Michael. Always perfectionist Mietek pursued his career as a mechanical design engineer at Polytype America Corporation for 30 years, retiring in late 2011. A genuine family man, he lived each day to the fullest, laughing, telling jokes, travelling, skiing, hiking, and connecting with loved ones around the world. Despite being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2002 Mietek continued pursuing these passions and was blessed with four grandchildren who thoroughly enjoyed playing with him. With the loving support of his wife, he remained the rock of his family, displaying unwavering courage and strength every single day. Mietek was a true soldier' who braved through life's challenges always with a smile and appropriately fought his last battle on Memorial Day. He is greatly missed and admired. In deepest sorrow, Mietek is survived by his devoted and beloved wife, Alina, sons Tomasz and Michael, daughters in law Suzy and Amanda, grandchildren Alex, Luke, Julia, Amelia, brother Stanislaw Gujda, sister Helena Froess, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Viewing hours are Friday, June 1st 7-9pm at the Shook Funeral Home (Clifton NJ). Funeral services are on June 2nd at 9am at St. Joseph's Church (East Rutherford NJ). In lieu of flowers, Mietek would prefer, and the family requests, donations in Mietek's name (to be given to a charity in Poland).
