Obituary

With deep sorrow and loving memories to cherish forever, we share the news that Maureen Hoey Hafelfinger, age 65, passed in peace after ongoing health complications, on Friday, November 29 in her beloved home since childhood in Clifton, NJ, surrounded by her husband and two daughters.

Maureen was born October 27, 1959 to James & Hazel Hoey, as the youngest of six. Joining the Hoey clan as "the baby" as her older siblings affectionately call her, Maureen was sister to Chris, Jeff, Denise, Sharon, and Ronnie. She attended St. Paul's Catholic School as a child and made friendships there that she would maintain until the day she died, over six decades later.

She graduated from Clifton High School in 1977 and attended Montclair State University after that. Professionally, she worked in customer service at Pathmark Supermarkets and Monarch/Trelleborg Industrial Tire. She always loved people and radiated kindness, which made her a dear colleague to many of her co-workers over the years.

She married Hank Hafelfinger in 1983, and together, they became parents to two daughters, Rebecca and Brianna, when Maureen became a stay-at-home mom. While Rebecca and Brianna were growing up, Maureen enjoyed volunteering at the girls' school, church, and as a Girl Scout Troop Leader.

She spent her days crafting, cuddling with the family cat Minnie, collecting family recipes, traveling, listening to music, and being a seasonal camper for 23 years at The Great Divide Campground. She loved animals, and had many cherished pets over the years: dogs, cats, and even a rabbit.

Maureen will be remembered dearly by those who carry her memory on: her husband of 41 years, Hank; her two daughters Rebecca & Brianna, and their partners, Paul & JC, respectively; siblings Chris & his wife Patti; Jeff & his wife Cindy; Denise; Sharon & her husband Bob; sister-in-laws Kathy and Helen, many many nieces and nephews; her lifelong best friends Lori & Donna; friends and neighbors. She joins her parents James & Hazel, brother Ronnie, mother-in-law Dorothy, brother-in-laws Nick and Scott, whose deaths preceded hers.

Maureen was known for her kind and caring heart, along with her endless slew of jokes, and her positive and hopeful outlook, even among the most challenging of life circumstances. She could make most anyone laugh, and she made friends wherever she went. She touched the hearts of many people who had the privilege and the honor to cross paths with her. Maureen's capacity to love people from across all walks and times of her life made her very special to a lot of people, no matter how much time had passed. She lives on in the hearts of all who knew her, and let us live out her legacy by leaning into kindness, care, and love, together.

Everybody loves Maureen!
