Mario Jose Saravia, 69, of Clifton, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Cochabamba, Bolivia, Mario courageously immigrated to the United States in 1986 in search of a better future for his family. He first settled in Passaic before making Clifton his home in 1995. Through perseverance, humility, and an unwavering devotion to those he loved, he built a life rooted in faith, hard work, generosity, and family.

Mario dedicated his entire career in the United States to the printing industry, where he worked from 1986 until his retirement, building a career across five printing companies. Everywhere he worked, he was known for his integrity, strong work ethic, kindness, and unmistakable sense of humor. His coworkers quickly became lifelong friends, and many remained a cherished part of his life long after they worked together.

Although he was the youngest of the Saravia siblings, Mario was the eldest of the Ponce brothers—a role he embraced with love, guidance, and unwavering support. He helped his brothers establish their lives in the United States, always leading by example and extending a helping hand whenever it was needed. They admired and loved him deeply throughout their lives.

Mario was also deeply loved by the Bolivian community. He maintained lifelong friendships from Bolivia and formed many more after arriving in the United States. To many, Mario was much more than a friend—he was a brother. His warmth, generosity, humility, and wonderful sense of humor brought people together, and his friendships became family.

A man of deep Catholic faith, Mario was a devoted believer of Our Lady of Urkupiña. His faith guided him throughout his life and gave him strength through both joyful and difficult times. He rarely missed Sunday Mass and quietly lived his faith through kindness, compassion, and service to others.

Mario’s greatest joy was his family. He was the beloved husband of Maria (Vargas) Saravia; devoted father of Maribel, Eric, and Leslie Saravia; and proud grandfather of Isabella, who brought him endless happiness and pride.

He is survived by his loving brothers Efrain, Marcelo, Santiago, and Joaquin Ponce; his loving sister-in-law, Rosario Vargas; as well as his nieces, nephews, godchildren, extended family, countless lifelong friends, former coworkers, and the Bolivian community, all of whom were blessed by his friendship and love. He was predeceased by his siblings Alfredo, Maritza, and Elias Saravia.

Mario’s greatest legacy was not measured by what he owned, but by the lives he touched. He opened doors for others, united his family, treasured lifelong friendships, and lived with humility, unwavering faith, and unconditional love. His memory will forever live in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visiting will be held Friday from 4:00–8:00 PM at Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton.

A funeral service will begin Saturday at 7:45 AM at the funeral home, followed by a 9:00 AM Funeral Mass at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, Clifton.

Interment will follow at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton.

Mario José Saravia, de 69 años, residente de Clifton, falleció en paz el 14 de julio de 2026, rodeado del amor de su familia.

Nació en Cochabamba, Bolivia, y en 1986 emigró valientemente a los Estados Unidos en busca de un mejor futuro para su familia. Primero se estableció en Passaic y, en 1995, hizo de Clifton su hogar. Con perseverancia, humildad y una entrega incondicional a quienes amaba, construyó una vida basada en la fe, el trabajo honesto, la generosidad y el amor por su familia.

Desde su llegada a este país, Mario dedicó toda su vida laboral a la industria de la impresión, donde trabajó desde 1986 hasta su jubilación en cinco diferentes empresas. En cada una de ellas fue reconocido por su integridad, responsabilidad, nobleza y su inconfundible sentido del humor. Sus compañeros de trabajo pronto se convirtieron en amigos para toda la vida, y muchos de ellos permanecieron a su lado como parte de esa gran familia que Mario supo construir.

Aunque fue el menor de los hermanos Saravia, Mario fue el mayor de los hermanos Ponce, un papel que asumió con orgullo, amor y responsabilidad. Ayudó a sus hermanos a establecerse en los Estados Unidos, guiándolos siempre con el ejemplo y tendiéndoles la mano cuando más lo necesitaban. Ellos lo admiraron profundamente y lo quisieron durante toda su vida.

Mario también fue profundamente querido por la comunidad boliviana. Conservó amistades de toda la vida desde Bolivia y, al llegar a los Estados Unidos, cultivó muchas otras que con el tiempo se convirtieron en verdaderos hermanos de corazón. Su calidez, generosidad, humildad y su gran sentido del humor hicieron que quienes lo conocieran encontraran en él un amigo incondicional. Para muchos, Mario fue mucho más que un amigo: fue un hermano.

Hombre de profunda fe católica, fue un devoto creyente de Nuestra Señora de Urkupiña, a quien encomendó siempre su vida y la de su familia. Rara vez faltaba a la Santa Misa dominical y vivió su fe con humildad, bondad, compasión y servicio a los demás.

Su mayor orgullo y alegría fue su familia. Fue el amado esposo de María Vargas de Saravia; padre ejemplar de Maribel, Eric y Leslie Saravia; y orgulloso abuelo de Isabella, quien llenó sus últimos años de inmensa alegría.

Le sobreviven sus queridos hermanos Efraín, Marcelo, Santiago y Joaquín Ponce; su querida cuñada, Rosario Vargas; además de sus sobrinos, ahijados, familiares, innumerables amigos de toda la vida, antiguos compañeros de trabajo y la comunidad boliviana, quienes siempre lo recordarán con profundo cariño. Fue precedido en la eternidad por sus hermanos Alfredo, Maritza y Elías Saravia.

El mayor legado de Mario no fue lo que tuvo, sino las vidas que tocó. Tendió la mano a quien lo necesitó, abrió puertas para muchos, unió a su familia, cultivó amistades que perduraron toda la vida y vivió con humildad, una fe inquebrantable y un amor incondicional. Su memoria vivirá para siempre en el corazón de todos los que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerlo.

El velorio se llevará a cabo el viernes de 4:00 a 8:00 p.m. en Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton.

El funeral será el sábado a las 7:45 a.m. en la funeraria, seguido por la Santa Misa de Exequias a las 9:00 a.m. en la Iglesia Ss. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, Clifton.

El sepelio tendrá lugar en East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton.
