Obituary

Margaret Richard Carnathan (nee Barr), 99, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2018, at the West Caldwell Care Center.  She was born and raised in Paterson and graduated from Eastside High School in 1937 . She worked as a secretary for many years at Federal Sweets & Biscuit Co., Clifton, and Grand Union Headquarters in Woodland Park. She served as secretary for over 25 years at the Albion Place VFW Post 7165 Auxiliary. Margaret was known for her excellent sewing skills and was proud of the more than 170 Christmas stockings that she created for family and friends.

Predeceased by her husbands, Henry Richard (1965) and William Carnathan (1991) and son-in-law Alexander Beresky (2001).  Loving mother of Thomas Richard and his wife Eleanore of Rutherford, Carol Beresky of Albrightsville, PA, and William Carnathan and his wife Palma of Bloomfield.  Cherished grandmother of Jayme Steadman (Warren), Kristin Aguilera (Fred), Erin White (David), Robert Carnathan (Kimberly), Lori Monti (Joseph), Michael Carnathan (Angela), and Stephanie Petruzzi (Michael). Cherished great grandmother to seven grandsons.

Visiting will be on Friday, May 18, 4pm – 8 pm, at Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. Funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa.
