Obituary

Marc Ward, 46, of New York, passed away peacefully in his home on August 19, 2026.

Marc was born in Queens, New York, on October 7, 1979. He grew up in Clifton and Cedar Grove, New Jersey, and went on to attend John Jay College and St. Thomas University School of Law. Marc worked with the Law Offices of Tacopina, Seigel & DeOreo and Wilens & Baker PC.

Marc was the devoted son of Marina Tencza, who remained faithfully and lovingly by his side until the very end. He is also survived by his father, Commissioner R. Ward, and his stepfather, Darius, as well as many loving family members: Nicole, Alexandra, Savannah, Damien, Danny, Mariana, Jeff, RJ, Lynn, Giovanni, Paula, and Claudia.

He is predeceased by Alfonso Izzi (“Papa Al”), Ruthy (“Mogwai”), and Frank Koterba, his devoted and loyal best friend.

Marc was an intelligent, charming, funny, charismatic, stubborn, and incredibly generous man. He had a quick wit and a contagious laugh, and he had a special gift for making everyone around him feel comfortable. Whether through his banter, his jokes, or simply his presence, Marc brought laughter to family gatherings and created memories that will remain with those who loved him.

Family meant everything to Marc. He loved his mother deeply, and his love for his niece and nephews was unconditional. He cherished them as though they were his own and took great joy in being part of their lives.

Marc was also a true sports fanatic. He remained fiercely loyal to his New York Mets and New York Jets, rarely missing a home game and staying glued to the television whenever they played away. His passion for his teams was just another part of the personality that made Marc uniquely Marc.

Marc faced many years of health struggles, but through it all, he remained surrounded by the love and support of his family. After a long and difficult journey, Marc is finally at peace.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known him. His laughter, humor, stubborn spirit, generosity, and unforgettable personality will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Rest peacefully, Marc. You were loved, you are missed, and you will never be forgotten.

Visiting Thursday 2 – 6 PM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, with a prayer service beginning at 5 PM. Cremation will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking that you make a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, www.StJude.org or the organization of your choice in honor of Marc.
