Lorraine Ernestine
Hruby
July 5, 1933 – December 13, 2025
Lorraine Ernestine Hruby (née Mizelle), 92, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on December 13, 2025. Born on July 5, 1933, to Percy and Ernestine (Mueller) Mizelle, she grew up in Kearny, New Jersey. Lorraine attended Kean College and graduated with a degree in Education. She married John Eugene Hruby, and they raised their family in Fairfield, New Jersey.
Family was at the heart of everything Lorraine did. She was a devoted and nurturing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love of life brought joy to those around her. Her home was always filled with love — a place where memories were made, and everyone felt welcome.
Lorraine embraced life with energy and enthusiasm. She loved music, dancing, singing, taking walks, bowling, playing mahjong with friends, and working her way through puzzles. Lorraine enjoyed the simple beauty of nature. She had a kindness and light that touched all who knew her.
Lorraine was predeceased by her beloved husband, John; her brothers, Perc, Robert, and Gerald; and her sister, Marilyn. She is survived by her siblings, Roy Mizelle and his wife Gerry, and Carolyn Morro and her husband Dan; her four children, Debra Malachowsky, John Hruby and Linda Backer, Susan and Robert Dolan and Cindy and Brian Egan. She will also be lovingly remembered by her ten grandchildren—Beth, Lynn (Liz), Brian (Joanna), Christen, Emily, Michael (Carly), Patrick (Olivia), Joseph, Andrew (Michaela), and Thomas—her seven great-grandchildren, Domenik, Toby, Jeremiah, Ellie, Miriam, Sophie, and Amelia, as well as her extended family and many dear friends.
Lorraine will be remembered for her gentle heart, her joyful spirit, and the countless moments of care she gave throughout her long and beautiful life. Her legacy lives on in her family, in the traditions she cherished, and in the love she so freely shared.
The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at Jerome Home & Arbor Rose in New Britain, CT for their wonderful care of Lorraine in the final chapter of her life.
Visitation will be on December 18th from 5-8pm at Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, NJ.
