Laurence Sterne, age 93, was born at home in Queens on May 18, 1930, and sadly passed away on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2023. He loved his Columbia University neighborhood and resided there for over 60 years. Larry lived a remarkable life. He made Eagle Scout, Boy Scouts' highest rank. Joined the US Marines in the early 1950s, graduated Officers Candidate School and remained in the Marine Reserves for over 20 years retiring with the rank of Major. Attended Dartmouth College and Columbia University, ultimately earning a PhD in Literature.

Larry was a man of multiple talents. His many careers included merchant marine, Sunday school teacher, college professor, author, psychotherapist, divorce mediator, business owner and dog walker. In his leisure he was a marathoner, distance cycler, sky diver, and adventurer. He traveled to over 60 countries and all 7 continents. He was the master of the corny joke and delighted in making people smile. Larry was unique. He will be missed.

Laurence is predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Rose (Maier) Stern, and his siblings, Richard Stern and Doris Stern Corry.

Visiting Thursday 10AM-12PM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. Interment to follow at Crest Haven Memorial Park, Clifton.
