Julia (Koper) Lawrence passed away peacefully on May 27, 2019 at the Country Arch Care Center in Pittstown, NJ. Julia was born in Lodi, NJ on March 9, 1927 and grew up in Passaic, NJ. She graduated from Pope Pius High School in 1944. She is predeceased by her loving husband Thomas in 1985.
Julia lived a full life marked by family, faith and friends. She lived in the same house in Clifton for 68 years and was a fixture at St. John Kanty church. Striving to keep her independence, she lived alone and drove until she was 91.
Over her 92 years, she saw the history we only read about. The Great Depression, World War II, 16 different presidents. As her kids grew she worked in a few Clifton-based companies including National Biscuit Company, Howe Richardson Scale and LCS Technologies spoiling her co-workers with homemade pierogis and cookies. She was active in the St. John Kanty PTA and the Golden Circle.
Julia is survived by her children Barbara Lawrence and companion Stephen Rapp, Jill Cupo and her husband John, Michele Lawrence and her husband Albert Botto, and Thomas Lawrence and his wife Katharine. In addition seven grandchildren (Sandra Cupo, Stephanie Cupo, Alison Botto Ervin ( husband Matt Ervin), Daniel Botto, Thomas H. Lawrence ( wife Jessica), Matthew Lawrence (wife Melissa) and Joseph Lawrence. Most of all five great-grandchildren (Rivers Ervin, Thomas X. (Tex) Lawrence, Shea Lawrence, Marshall Lawrence and Maxwell Lawrence.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 30, at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, from 4-8pm. Funeral Friday 9 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John Kanty Church at 10am. Interment will be at St. Michael's Cemetery in South Hackensack, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John Kanty Church in her name.
