Judith A.
Telep
September 5, 2022
Judith Telep-Ehrlich, passed away on Monday September 5, 2022. Born July 25, 1952, in Passaic, NJ to Nicholas and Sally Telep, of Clifton, where Judy was raised and became interested in music and had visions of singing opera.
Her work and talent soon were recognized when in 1975, at the age of 23, she signed with Columbia Artists and started her career with the New York City Opera Company. This was the start of an international career specializing in Italian and German operas with a repertoire of over 40 roles. Always a Jersey girl Judy has sung and stared from New York, to San Francisco, Miami, Washington DC.'s Kennedy Center, Los Angeles, Fort Worth, as well as in Frankfurt, Bonn and others opera companies.
Her career roles emphasized her passion that Verdi was the greatest writer for voice and that Italian operas had all the material for her as a dramatic and lyric soprano. These complicated pieces offer some of the greatest challenges to opera singers for which Judy's natural and studied talent excelled. This was followed by her many Wagnerian performances emphasizing technic.
Judy followed her passion of performing for many years and upon retiring married her husband William J. Hoffmann and resided in Larchmont, NY until his passing in 2006. They shared their interest in music from opera to Jazz and performed socially for holiday's and special events.
She leaves behind her sisters: Joyce of Bloomingdale, and June Zachmann of Wayne; and her brothers: Nicholas of Acworth, GA and Robert of Venice, FL. and 12 nieces and nephews, that will always remember their "Diva" sister and aunt.
Memorial Gathering, Saturday 1:00 to 3:30 PM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. Memorial Service 3:30 PM at the funeral home. Cremation was private.
Judy's cremains will be laid to rest alongside of her late husband William Hoffman in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, NY, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to Assumption of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Church, 35 Orange Ave., Clifton, NJ 07013, in memory of Judy, would be greatly appreciated.
