Joyce Catherine (McCarroll) MacArthur grew up in East Orange and moved to Clifton 67 years ago. She graduated from St. Vincent's Academy in Newark and Montclair State College. Joyce was a teacher in Orange, Hillel Academy, and retired from the Clifton Public Schools in 1992. A parishioner of St. Andrew's Church, Joyce was a member of the HSA, Rosary Society, 39ers Senior Group, and taught remedial reading.
She was also a Den Mother in Scouting. Her love for genealogical research included participation in the Passaic County Historical Society.

Predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Joyce was the devoted wife of Austin MacArthur. She was the loving mother of Patricia and her husband Brian Loughlin, Richard and his wife Catherine MacArthur, the late Kenneth MacArthur, Mark and his wife Shannon MacArthur. She was the sister of the late Lois McKay. Joyce was loving grandmother to Brian Loughlin and his wife Lindsay, Kristin Longo and her husband Daniel, Lauren Stiles and her husband Alex, Jazalyn Lester and her husband Colby. Great-grandmother to John, Patrick, and Charlotte Loughlin, and Rory and Archer Longo, Gigi was her favorite title.

Visiting Tuesday 4-8 PM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. Funeral Wednesday 8:45 AM at the funeral home and 10 AM at St. Andrew the Apostle RC Church, Clifton. Interment, Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Upper Montclair.
