Josephine (Cyran) Vetanovetz, "Josie", 85, of Clifton, passed away on August 24, 2016. Born in the Athenia Section of Clifton, she was a life long resident of Clifton.
An active and faithful parishioner of St. John Kanty RC Church, Clifton, Josie was a Trustee for many years and was a member of the Parish Finance Council. As a member of the Rosary and Altar Society, Josie maintained the Altar area of the church for decades and was a founding member of the Loaves & Fishes, "the pirogi makers". Josie was an Alto with the SJK Choir, was Chairperson of the Parish Picnic Committee, and worked countless Communion Breakfasts. In 2009, Josie was honored by the Diocese of Paterson and was awarded The Vivere Christus Award, in recognition of Outstanding Service to the Church of Paterson.
Josie was a Supervisor for Midlantic Bank, later PNC Bank, in West Paterson for over 25 years. After retiring from the bank, Josie was a Crossing Guard for the Clifton Police Department at School 3, Clifton, for many years.
Beloved wife for 54 years of the late Richard J., who passed away in 2010. Devoted mother of Richard P. and his wife Shawnee of Henderson, NV, Rita Lanaras and her husband Dennis of Cedar Grove, Judith Currier and her husband Daniel of Emerson, Susan Beeferman and her husband Richard of Kinnelon, Sarah Sayles and her husband Thomas of Clifton, and the late Maryann who passed away in 1969. Loving grandmother of 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way. Dear sister of John Cyran of Longenville, GA, Ricky Trappe of Pompton Lakes, Helen Sauer of Wilmington, NC, and the late Sp.4 Richard E. Cyran, US Army, who passed away in 1969, during the Vietnam War.
Funeral Saturday 7:45 AM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, and 9 AM at St. John Kanty RC Church, Clifton. Interment, St. Michael's Cemetery, South Hackensack. Visiting Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the funeral home.
