Obituary

Josephine "Jay" (Mamczur) Malitsch passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Friday, November 7, 2014, in the presence of her loving family in the house she called home for 75 years. She was born in Passaic on April 16, 1918, to Peter and Anna Mamczur. She graduated Passaic HS at age 15 and began a long career in the business world. She worked at Howe Machinery Co. in Passaic, as a Plant Manager for the US Mica Co. in Rutherford, and later for Clifton Metal Products. She moved to Clifton when she married her late husband Charles "Chuck" Malitsch in 1936. Jay was a woman of strong faith and devoted much of her time and energy to the church. She was a parishioner of St. Paul RC Church, Clifton, where she served as Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the St. Paul Rosary Society. She was a past president of the Paterson Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and served at the national level as president of the National Council of Catholic Women. As a parishioner of St. John Kanty RC Church, Clifton, Jay was a member of the St. Theresa Choir, co-chair of the St. John Kanty School Building Fund, and member of the St. John Kanty Rosary and Altar Society. Jay was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She passed on a legacy of love to her family and stressed the importance of keeping the family close. She leaves behind her loving daughters, Gloria Kolodziej and her late husband Joseph S., and Linda Gengaro and her husband Frank, her adored grandchildren, Joseph Kolodziej and his wife Amie (Kolb), Mary Jo Coan and her husband J. Benjamin, Thomas Kolodziej, Jennifer Lauritano and her husband Joseph, Kristen Gengaro, Mark Gengaro, and her cherished great-grandchildren, Eric, Nicole and Tyler Coan and Joseph and Ryan Lauritano. Funeral Wednesday 8:45 AM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, and 10 AM at St. Paul's RC Church, Clifton. Interment, St. Michael's Cemetery, South Hackensack. Visiting Tuesday 4-8 PM at the funeral home. Jay's greatest joy was spending time with her family and giving of her many talents to charitable endeavors.
