Joseph J. Murphy, 76, of Warren, passed away on September 12, 2023. Born in Newark, he lived in Belleville and Frelinghuysen before moving to Warren over 20 years ago.

A firefighter for the Passaic Fire Department for 25 years, Joe was also the owner of Lynnebrooke Drywall, Inc. for many years. A member of Passaic Fire FMBA Local 13, Joe was named "Firefighter of the Year" in 1986. An avid horseman who owned and trained horses, Joe enjoyed horseback riding "Western Style'.

Beloved husband of Kathy Kresmery. Devoted father of daughters Jenna Murphy and her husband Frank Meshach of Mt. Olive, Heather Murphy Petersen and her husband Wade of Hopatcong, Alison Ratering and her husband Jason of Henderson, NV, step sons Daniel and Robert Kresmery, both of Budapest, Hungary, and Kevin Burgos, who was like a son to him. Loving grandfather of Jack, Ethan, Abigail, Summer, Maya, Oscar, Brayden, Savannah, James and Knox. Dear brother of Ann Schuster and her husband Jack of Roseland, and Kathleen Podlas of West Caldwell. Sadly missed by his canine companion Gracie.

Visiting Monday September 18th, 4-8 PM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. A prayer service will begin at 7 PM. Cremation will be private.
