On February 3, 2021, John P. Spuches of New York City, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer and Covid-19. Born in the West Village from humble beginnings, John grew up in Jackson Heights, graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, St. John's College, and received his law degree from Columbia University with honors in 1960. Prior to retiring in 2003, John enjoyed a distinguished legal career as managing partner of Dewey Ballantine, and was a leader in its mergers and acquisitions practice, most notably the acquisition of Rockefeller Center by Mitsubishi in 1989.
A loving father, whose principles of integrity, kindness, and perseverance were instilled in his children, Spuches led an extraordinary life. His son Timothy; his son, Christopher and daughter-in-law Christina, his two grandchildren, Jack and Juniper; his longtime companion Patricia Krause, and his former wife and friend, Joanne Spuches, will miss him immeasurably.
