John P. Smurla, 76, of Clifton on January 19, 2010. Born in Bloomfield he lived in Clifton most of his life. An Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, John was an Installer for Lucent for 40 years, retiring in 1995. A former parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle RC Church, Clifton, John was a parishioner of St. John Kanty RC Church, Clifton, and a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Gray). Devoted father of Karen Freeman and her husband Brian of Howell, Michael and his wife Annmarie of Cedar Grove, and the late Gary who died in 2007. Loving grandfather of Jessica, Michael, Patrick and Tara. Funeral Saturday 9 AM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, and 10 AM at St. John Kanty RC Church.
