John Kucher, Sr., 99, of Butler passed away on June 6, 2022. Born in a small village of Tadievka, Ukraine, John was taken to a German labor camp at the age of 18 during WWII and, after liberation by the US military, moved to the US in 1956, where he settled in Passaic. He then moved to Butler in 1965 and had lived there since.
An avid NY Yankees fan, John enjoyed hunting, playing chess, reading, social gatherings and was a member of the Holy Ascension Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, Clifton. He was an Electrical Engineer for Nabisco for 21 years before retiring in 1989.
Beloved husband of the late Anna (Kaplun) who passed away in 1984. Devoted father of John Kucher, Jr., of Butler. Dear grandfather of Jessica Gragnaniello and her husband Salvatore of Totowa. Loving great-grandfather of Ivan Gragnaniello. Dear brother of Vasily Kucher of PA, Antonina Kucher of Ukraine and Anna Kucher of Russia. Uncle of Igor Kucher of Ukraine and Inna Kucher of Fair Lawn.
Visiting Thursday 6-9PM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. Funeral Friday 10AM at Holy Ascension Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 635 Broad Street, Clifton. Interment, St. Andrew's Cemetery, South Bound Brook.
In lieu of flowers, donations made in John's memory to Holy Ascension to aid those affected by the war in Ukraine would be greatly appreciated.
