John Hakun, 89, passed away January 12, 2011. Born in Czechoslovakia, he came to the United States in 1937 and settled in Clifton.
A parishioner of Assumption of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Church, Clifton, John was a custodian for the Clifton Board of Education at School #14 for 25 years before retiring in 1983 and was a member of the Clifton Custodians Association.
An Army veteran of WWII, he was a member of the Athenia Veterans Post, Clifton.
Beloved husband of the late Helen (Kalinsky) who died in 1983, and the late Colleen (Zaccone) who died in 1994. Devoted father of Helen Gogick and her husband John of Oak Ridge, and Mary Hakun-McWilliams and her husband Tim of Canandaigua, NY. Dear brother of Anne Toombs and her husband Jim of Clifton. Loving grandfather of 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Funeral Saturday, 8 AM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, and 9 AM at Assumption of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Church. Interment East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton. Visiting Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM with Panikhida at 3 PM.
