*****UPDATE***** Due to the expected snowstorm, the funeral has been postponed to Saturday January 4, 2014, beginning 8:45 AM at the Shook Funeral Home, followed by a 10AM Mass at St. Joseph's RC Church, 120 Hoboken Rd., East Rutherford. Visitation will remain 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the funeral home. There will be no visitation or services on Friday. John Gentile, 101, of Silver Beach passed away on December 30, 2013. Born in the Bronx, NY, John lived in Wood-Ridge, Wallington, Cooper City, FL, Jackson and Hasbrouck Heights before moving to Silver Beach in 2004. John was a Purchasing Agent for Blazer Corp., Paterson, for over 50 years, retiring 30 years ago, and also for Hillyork in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. A member of the Shawhank Social Club, John was a Past President and Trustee of the Silver Beach Association. John had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening and also was an avid hunter and fisherman. Beloved husband of the late Florence (Majdanski) who passed away in 1989. Devoted father of Joyce Fox and father-in-law of Harry Fox. Cherished grandfather of John Fox and his wife Cristina. Adored great-grandfather of John and Kevin Fox. Dear brother of Sabatino "Bay" Gentile of IN, and the late Salvatore, Andrew, Madeline, Theresa and Mary. John will be dearly missed by his faithful canine companion, Max. Funeral Friday 8:45 AM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, and 10 AM at St. Joseph's RC Church, East Rutherford. Interment, Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst. Visiting Thursday 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Funeral Home.
