Obituary

Jeff Sitar, 57, of Clifton passed away on February 22, 2019. Born in Johnstown, PA, Jeff was 18 months old and his Sister Rosie 6 years when Mom and Dad moved the Family from Johnstown to Passaic. He and his Sister obviously got their amazing work ethic and good hearts from their Parents John and Mary. Sadly their Dad passed suddenly when Jeff was only 6 and Rosie only 11. Mary became both Mom and Dad making sure her children grew up with good values. Jeff was 100% committed to everything he set his mind to do. Since he was a child he loved anything with wheels, starting with Hot Wheels, then bicycles, on to mini bikes and mopeds, eventually motorcycles. And racing in Englishtown.

As a pre-teen he would run to the junkyard to get parts to assemble his own bikes with or without a motor. At a young age he would frequent a local shop called Grand Auto Lock and Key to purchase bike accessories. The owner Murray took notice of Jeff's mechanical ability and dedication and invited him to work after school to fix the old Schwinn bikes at the shop. He would run to get there and worked diligently. Shortly after he took an interest in the lock and key aspect of the business and Murray took him under his wing to teach him because he saw Jeff's drive. Of course, in no time Jeff became a master locksmith. Next the safe repairs and openings at the shop sparked Jeff's interest. He read a safe manual that fascinated him and began practicing on a safe dial. That was the beginning of an almost 40 year career. Murray and his wife Lil, who together operated their business, eventually became Jeff's in-laws when Jeff married Doreen. They were both extremely proud of him. Adventures in safe openings brought Jeff to businesses, residences, banks and across the country to hundreds of interesting stories, pleasing countless clients and saving the day over and over again! Jeff was an 8 time Champion of Lockmasters Safe Manipulation contests. He was referred to as 'Houdini'. His clientele included FBI, DEA, Homeland Security, Secret Service, US Marshalls, US Military and Historical sights. He belonged to several organizations including SAVTA for safes and vaults and The North Jersey Locksmiths Association. His achievements brought him to many newspaper write-ups and television spots. Always very proud of his many successes.
He also had a great passion for Martial Arts and found a new challenge. Moving on to become a 6 degree blackbelt! He then went on to teach multiple students. On a personal note Jeff was very devoted to his Family and Friends. He adored his Children Jon and Jackie. Very proud of them Always! He also had a close relationship with his wonderful brother-in- law Arpad Balogh who also left us much too soon. He was good to everyone he met. Always there to help anyone out day or night with whatever they needed and never looking for anything in return. Always greeted you with a Smile. And could make you laugh with his quick wit. Jeff left this world way too soon, still having so much more to accomplish. And so many more lives to touch.

Beloved husband of Doreen (Lieberman) Sitar. Devoted father of Jonathan Sitar and his companion Giovanna Grasso of West Caldwell, and Jaclyn Sitar and her husband Alex Soutar of Abingdon, MD. Loving brother of Rosemarie Balogh of Gillett, PA. Dear brother-in-law of Phyllis and Phil Remolador, Naomi Woolever, and Renee and Andrew Husted. Sadly missed by his canine companion, Combo.
