Obituary

Jeanette Szmaciasz, nee Gusciora, 96, of Clifton, a caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on January 21, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.

Jeanette was born in Clifton where she lived most of her life.  She worked for the Clifton Board of Education for 20 years and was an active member in several religious and civic organizations.  A long-time parishioner at St. John Kanty Church, she was a member of its Rosarians. As a founding and charter member of the church's Golden Circle she served as Secretary for many years. She was involved with The Clifton Girl's Club, both as Secretary and on the Board of Trustees during the club's formative years. As an officer in the Athenia Veterans Post Auxiliary, she supported its many events.

She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas J. for 68 years before his passing in 2014. She is survived by her daughters Janet Kempf and her husband Paul of West Chester, PA, Carol DeVisser and her husband Daniel of Kinnelon, NJ, Marian Bell and her husband Ronald of Wayne, NJ, and Susan Delancy and her husband Michael of Medford, NJ. Her devoted family also includes seven grandsons, Scott Kempf (wife Colleen); Kristopher (wife Katie) and Trevor DeVisser; Ryan Bell; and Brian, Matthew and Jacob Delancy; and two great-grandsons, Jackson and Logan Kempf.  She is also survived by her ten nieces and nephews.  Jeanette was predeceased by her five sisters.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 25, from 4-8 PM and Saturday, January 26, at 9 AM at Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, NJ.  Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 AM at St. John Kanty Church, 49 Speer Ave., Clifton, NJ.
