Obituary

Jean (nee Cook) Pellegrino, 88, died peacefully at home on September 27, 2019. Born in Riverdale NJ, she lived in Passaic for over 30 years and in Wallington for 10 years, before moving to Clifton.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Vincent A Pellegrino, who died in 1993 and her grandson, Christopher Michael Pellegrino in 1979. She is descended from the Westervelt family with history dating back to 1654 in this country tracing her mother's lineage to Casporus Westervelt, a colonial of Dutch ancestry who fought in the American Revolution.  She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, having served as past Regent of the Claverack Chapter in Clifton.  She was an avid genealogist and volunteered at the Lambert Castle Museum in Paterson and was a member of the Passaic County Genealogy Club.  She was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Passaic and actively participated in the Church life having taught Sunday School, serving on the Church Council, and as a member of various Church organizations.

She is survived by a son, Gary Pellegrino (Jeanne) of Whitehouse Station, NJ and two daughters, Cheryl Swanson (Karl) of San Francisco, CA and Cathie Rabinove (David) of Shelton, CT.   She is also survived by five grandsons and seven great-grandchildren.

Visiting Wednesday 5-7 PM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. Interment Private.

In lieu of flowers, donations made St. John's Lutheran Church, 140 Lexington Ave., Passaic, NJ 07055, or a charity of your choice, in memory of Jean, would be greatly appreciated.
