James Sean Sweeney, 68, of Branchville passed away on October 20, 2023. Born in Paterson, James was raised and lived in Clifton before moving to Sussex County in 1990. He was a Detective Sergeant with the Special Investigation Unit and Narcotics Divisions of the Paterson Police Department, where he worked for 25 years before retiring in 2003. James was a loyal friend, had a one of kind heart, and was the epitome of a father figure. He will be dearly missed by many.

James was the son of the late Genevieve (McCleary) and James A Sweeney. James is survived by his son, Sean C Sweeney.

Services were private under the direction of the Shook Funeral Home, Clifton.
