Irene (Abad) Melendez, 91, of Paterson, passed away on October 16, 2015. Born in Peru, she came to the US in 1980 and settled in Paterson. A parishioner of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Paterson, Irene was a self employed Baker and taught Home Economics for many years. Irene represented the Zurita Academy baking a cake in the shape of a guitar on channel #4 in Lima, Peru. Beloved wife of the late Teodoro who passed away in 1991. Devoted mother of Carlos Melendez and his wife Lillian of Budd Lake, Carmen Santos of Garfield, Rolando and Hilva of Clifton, and Consuelo Colon and her husband Jose of Elmwood Park. Loving grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Dear sister Lucia Carpio of Maryland, and Albina Quiroz of Peru. Funeral Thursday 8:45 AM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, and 10 AM at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Paterson. Interment, Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Fair Lawn. Visiting Wednesday 2-4 and 6-9 PM at the funeral home.
