Helen
Yurchinkonis
December 8, 2025
Helen Yurchinkonis, 97, of Clifton, the last surviving member of a family of 6 children. Born to John and Julia Zliceski of Mocanaqua, PA. John, a coal miner, tragically passed away in a mining accident when Helen was not even a year old and was raised by a widowed homemaker during the depths of the depression. Helen went on to work jobs as varied as working in a silk mill and cigar factory in the Mocanaqua area.
One weekend night in 1955, a man decided to drive from Plymouth, PA, and cross the Shickshinny-Mocanaqua Bridge across the Susquehanna River to watch a show at the Polish Falcons Hall. It was there that Helen first met Sylvester, the man she would marry the following year.
Welcoming a son in 1957, the couple moved to Clifton and were employed by Shulton, Inc., the then manufacturer of Old Spice products, remaining there until their respective retirements.
Her husband passed away in 2005, Helen lived with her son Thomas at the time of her passing.
In addition to her son, Helen is survived by a niece and several nephews.
