Helen (Backes) Plishka, 94, of Clifton, passed away on March 16, 2016. Born in Friedrichsthal, Germany, she came to the US in 1929 with her parents and two sisters, settling in Franklin before moving to Clifton many years ago.
A parishioner of St. Andrew the Apostle RC Church, Clifton, Helen raised a large family and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, arts and crafts, traveling, going to garage sales, and vacations with her husband, Peter.
Beloved wife for 66 years of the late Peter who passed away in November, and the late Gordon Tomea, Jr, who passed away in 1944. Devoted mother of Richard of Clifton, Edward and his late wife Sandra of Wood Ridge, Gary and his late wife Linda of Clifton, Barbara Wojcik and her husband John of Youngsville, NC, Peter, Jr., and his wife Suzy of Avondale Estates, GA, Robert and his wife Patricia of Towaco, the late Linda Plishka and the late Gordon Tomea and his wife Ann of Maplewood. Loving grandmother of Christine, Christopher, Michael, Alexander, Stefann, Victoria, Meredith, Laura, David, Allison, Randall, Simon and Sofie. Dear sister of Ann Banks of Newton, and the late Hilda Olden.
Funeral Saturday 9 AM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, and 10 AM at St. Andrew the Apostle RC Church, Clifton. Cremation, East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton. Visiting Friday 5-8 PM at the funeral home.
