Gloria J. (Malitsch) Kolodziej, 77, former Mayor and Councilwoman of Clifton, passed away on December 9, 2016. Born in Passaic, she was a lifelong resident of Clifton.
A parishioner of St. Paul's RC Church, Clifton, Gloria was the owner of Conveyors by North American in Clifton since 1979. Gloria was the Mayor of Clifton from 1982 to 1990, and remained a Clifton City Councilwoman until retiring from public office in 2010. Gloria was instrumental with the Steep Slope Ordinance to Preserve Garrett Mountain, helped to build the new Clifton Library on Piaget Avenue and was also behind the expansion of the Boys & Girls Club of Clifton. Gloria continued to volunteer at the Gloria J. Kolodziej Arts Center, named in her honor in 2010. She was a member of the Clifton Domestic Violence Response Team as well as a volunteer at the Father English Center in Paterson
Beloved wife of the Late Councilman Joseph S. Kolodziej, who passed away in 1981. Devoted mother of Councilman Joseph Kolodziej and Amie of Clifton, Thomas Kolodziej of Clifton, Mary Jo Coan and Benjy of Montville, and Jennifer Lauritano and Joseph of Clifton. Loving grandmother of Eric, Nicole and Tyler Coan, Joseph and Ryan Lauritano, and Jakub and Connor Kolodziej. Dear sister of Linda Gengaro and Frank of Bloomfield. Cherished aunt of Kristen, Mark, Kenny and Terri, JoAnne and Frank, Janine and Timmy, Ricky and Maribel, Krys and Pete.
Funeral Friday 8:30 AM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, and 10 AM at St. Paul's RC Church, Clifton. Interment, St. Michael's Cemetery, South Hackensack. Visiting Wednesday 6-9 PM and Thursday 2-4 and 6-9 PM at the funeral home.
