Obituary

Beloved husband, son, father, and stepfather, Frank R. Lando of Toms River, NJ passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was predeceased by his parents, Grace and Frank Lando. He is survived by his former spouse Renee Lando, daughter Annalise Lando, son Nicholas Lando, partner Melissa McDermott, stepson Reece McDermott, and stepdaughter Stephanie McDermott.

Frank attended Rutgers University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in software engineering  in 1981 before earning his first job as a volunteer at his local police station. He would tell stories of this first position, namely with regards to all of the reading and studying he needed to do for it. Stories like this were common of Frank, and the incredible work ethic and attention to detail he displays in them, without ever needing to point them out himself, always served to remind the listener of both the virtues previously listed as well as that of modesty. Such characteristics were the rich embellishments which he always displayed in any venture, casual or otherwise, and which anyone who became close to Frank surely admired and desired to emulate in themselves. He later worked for UPS as senior system programmer analyst, retiring at the age of 58 and settling down in Franklin, NJ before spending the rest of his life in the house which he so happily owned and cared for in Toms River, NJ.

Frank was a sublimely talented musician who had been playing as the lead and rhythm guitarist in the band Voice of Doom, and as bassist in the cover bands, Sound Matters and Dune Lane. His musicianship was impressive, and certainly a key part of his life, but even more impressive was his commitment to his loved ones. Frank was a hugely positive influence in the lives of all friends and family, and his knack for practicality and fiscal thinking has provided a comforting blanket of intellectualism, reasoning, and general security for everybody who has ever been fortunate enough to intimately know him. His good habits rubbed off on those around him, and he generally reminded us in many ways, without ever needing to say it, of how we can be better for both ourselves, and for those whom we care about.

Faith was a key part of Frank's life, and one we hope shall provide solace for him in a better place. He was baptized after his birth and spent much of his adult life consulting scripture. He was a fervent believer in Christ who in his later years, always tried to find time during the day to sit down and read from the bible. In his belief, he was never without tolerance and was able to both appreciate and converse on the differences between himself and others who were not of the same creed as him. He was respectful in this way, even if his conversant was not, and this is a virtue we should look to emulate. A respectful, humble Christian man who sought to be understood and to understand others. You could be sure that if you felt the desire to learn more about his faith, he would happily provide you with any number of sources which informed his own worldview – such an appreciation for education and comprehension were subtle, yet profound qualities of his.

In the wake of Frank Lando's sudden passing are left his loved ones, who in many ways carry on his will through those attributes of his which they have come to take after. In this way, we ensure that Frank's death is merely a bodily one, and that he lives on within our collective memory, but that his will also continues to live on as a shared vocation to be prudent, intelligent, and to simply have fun in both the big and little things in life – just as Frank himself would.
