Eugene "Gene" Joseph Syrek, 97, of Clifton, passed away on May 12, 2022. Born at home in Passaic, he lived his earlier years in Wallington before settling in Clifton 65 years ago. Gene attended Holy Rosary Grammar School in Passaic, and Essex County Vocational Technical School, Bloomfield. A Proud Army Veteran Gene worked for Rutherford Machine Co. East Rutherford, Curtiss-Wright Corporation, Wood-Ridge where he was a trained mechanist who worked on many early planes, such as the Lockheed Super Constellation. Later, he worked for Public Service Electric & Gas in Newark & Edison for many years, retiring in 1985. Gene enjoyed Bowling, Softball, Model-Building and Reading in his early years. Later, he continued to be an avid reader, coin collector, woodworker, and traveler.

Beloved husband of the late Florence Syrek (Marzec), who passed away in 1998. Devoted father of Cynthia A Rose and her late husband George, and her significant other Jaime da Graca, Susan F Mertz and her husband Dennis Mertz. Loving grandfather of Adam G. Rose and his wife Kate Rose, Ashley A Rose Cammarano and her husband Nicholas Cammarano, Alexander Syrek Rose and his wife Jaime Rose, Jaclyn A. Mertz, and Stephanie N. Mertz and her fiancé Alex Varley. Cherished great grandfather of Camila "Mila" Rose Cammarano, Bennett Nicholas Cammarano, and Raia Leigh Rose. Dear brother of the late John Syrek, Caroline "Clara" Farrell, Julia Kriso, Matthew Syrek, Stanley Syrek, Helen Kaiser, Eugene Syrek, and Edmund "Monty" Syrek. Loving uncle of many nieces and nephews, especially Shirley Conley.

Visiting Monday 5 – 7 PM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. Funeral Tuesday 10 AM at the Funeral Home. Entombment, Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
