Eugene R. Leshchyshyn, 82, of Garfield, passed away on December 31, 2014. Born in Wallington, he lived in Passaic before moving to Garfield many years ago. An Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, Eugene was a member of Rosol-Dul Memorial Post #359, Passaic. Before retiring several years ago, Eugene was a Custodian for the Garfield Police Department for 20 years. Eugene was a Volunteer Fireman for Garfield Rescue Engine # 3, Garfield, and a member of AARP. A member of the 1950 Passaic High School State Champion Football Team, Eugene was a former Football Coach for Pope Pius XII High School, Passaic. Beloved husband for 59 years of Barbara (Popowich). Devoted father of Greta Latona and her husband John of Haskell, and Nadine Drost and her husband Brian of Franklin Lakes. Loving grandfather of Michelle, Brian, John, Colby and Corrina. Dear brother of Jenny Arson of Passaic, and her late husband John, Walter and his wife Dolores of Millville, and the late John and his wife Doris of Kansas. Cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews. Funeral Monday 10:30 AM at Ss. Peter and Paul's Russian Orthodox Cathedral, 200 Third St., Passaic. Kindly meet at the church. Interment, East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton. Visiting Sunday 5-8 PM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, Parastas at 6 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations made to Ss. Peter and Paul's RO Cathedral, in memory of Eugene, would be greatly appreciated.
