Emeline Bearse (nee Nakonechny), 102, was born in Passaic on August 6, 1919. She and her four sisters and two brothers were raised in Garfield. In 1939, she married Leo Bearse, they had two children, Katherine and Jeffrey, and lived in Wallington before settling in Clifton in 1951.
Emeline worked as an engineering technician for Dumont Laboratories, which later became Fairchild. After retiring, she worked at New Jersey Liquidators of Clifton.
Her hobbies were many and included sewing, reupholstering furniture and playing cards with a group of ladies from Athenia. She was also an avid handicapper and horse race bettor.
She was predeceased by her husband Leo, son Jeffrey and son-in-law Robert Harlak. She is survived by daughter Katherine Harlak, daughter-in-law Maryann Bearse, granddaughters Jessica Chichi and her husband Tom, Erica Bearse and her partner Gregg Milite, and great-grandchildren Alyssa and Thomas Jeffery "TJ" Chichi.
Visiting Friday 10AM-12PM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. A prayer service will begin at 12PM. Interment, East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton.
