Obituary

Edward John Kaloudis, 79 of Wayne, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 6, 2017.


He was the son of Yanni and Maritsa Kaloudis and was raised during his early years in Chios Greece. He was a graduate of Upper Darby High School and NYU where he received a degree in education. At NYU he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, captain of the Soccer team and an All American Soccer Player.


He was a Parishioner of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and an American pioneer of the Martial Arts. He studied Koei-Kan Karate-Do in Japan and was graded to the rank of 8th degree Black belt. He brought Koei-Kan Karate-Do to the USA, Venezuela and Greece. He taught at the North Caldwell school system for 30 years and introduced Karate as a course of study at FDU, MSU and WPU, where he was an adjunct professor. He also was an instructor at the NYPD police academy for many years. His ability to connect with his students and help them develop confidence and belief in themselves was an inspiration to all and will remain to be one of his major legacies.


Edward was married to his soul mate and beloved wife Frances Melillo and they resided in Wayne, NJ with their beloved children Maritsa and Yanni. They loved to travel as a family but most of all they enjoyed their time in LBI, where they had their beach home. Many beautiful memories of family and friends were made of gathering there. Frances preceded Edward and passed away in 1991.

Visiting Thursday February 16, 2017, 3-8 PM at the Shook Funeral Home 639 Van Houten Ave. Clifton. Funeral Services Friday, February 17, 2017, 11:00 AM at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Clifton. Interment, Calvary Cemetery, Paterson.
