Dorothy (nee Skawinski) Fashek, 89, of Vero Beach, FL, passed away on June 3, 2014. Born in Passaic to William and Catherine (nee Soltis) Skawinski, she was their only child. As the first grandchild, she was raised with an outpouring of love and affection from her Grandfather Marcin, Aunts Catherine, Nellie and Lulu, and her Uncle Yankee who all lived very nearby. Mrs. Fashek lived most of her adult life in Clifton and moved to Vero Beach 3 years ago to be near family. A fluent speaker of Polish, Mrs. Fashek graduated from Passaic High School, married young, and worked most of her life. Mrs. Fashek, who had previously worked only in the private sector, retired in 1991 after 14 years as a probation officer for the State of New Jersey Passaic County Probation Division. She was a member of the Elks Lodge Women's Auxiliary and the Athenia Veterans Post Women's Auxiliary, both of Clifton. She enjoyed an active social life making many friends at work and in her community and travelled all her life to Florida to visit family. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Fashek is survived by her two sons, Norman L. Fashek (Tara Mactaggart) of Vero Beach, FL, and Christopher M. Fashek (Christine Robb) of San Antonio, TX; four grandchildren, Christiane Schmidt (Manuel) and Allison Van Dusen (Matthew), Christopher Walenty Fashek, and John Cameron Fashek; and four great-grandchildren, Ava Quinn Van Dusen, Xaver Christopher Schmidt, Valentin Robb Schmidt and Ridley Ford Van Dusen. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Fashek in 2000. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at St. Philip the Apostle RC Church, 797 Valley Rd., Clifton. Interment, St. Nicholas Cemetery, Lodi. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, July 18, 2014 from 4 - 7 PM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. In lieu of flowers, donations made to Catholic Charities Diocese of Paterson, 777 Valley Rd., Clifton, NJ 07013, or to the Indian River Land Trust, 80 Royal Palm Pointe, Vero Beach, FL 32960, in Mrs. Fashek's memory would be greatly appreciated.
