Darrell Emery Williams entered into eternal rest on July 9, 2023. He was 74 years old.
Born on March 11, 1949, in New York City to Martha W. Bryant and Samuel Duncan, Darrell grew up in Williamston, N.C. He attended E.J. Hayes High School in Williamston, where he played tuba in the marching band. He graduated in 1967.
Darrell was inducted into the U.S. Army in July 1969, where he served his country at the 12th Evacuation Hospital of the United States Armed Forces Institute in Cu Chi Province during the Vietnam War.
After his honorable discharge, he lived and worked in Essex County, New Jersey for companies such as IBM, Movado, and People's Choice Mortgage Corporation (where he was a senior loan officer). He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Bloomfield College in 1980.
A clothes horse with impeccable style, Darrell was known for his incredible fashion sense, the amazing hats he wore, his straight-forward nature, and the Mercedes Benz cars he owned over the last four decades.
Left to cherish wonderful memories of Darrell are his wife, Larraine K. Williams; his grandchildren: Lakin Marie Mitchell, Darrell Williams, Nicole Williams and Davon Burrell; his great-grandsons, Elijah and Izaiah Mitchell – all of Beacon, NY; his siblings: Robert Williams (Ruby) of Warner Robins, GA, Allan Williams (Nettie) of Weddington, NC, Brenda Sanders of Newburgh, NY, and Lionel Williams (Jo Marie) of Newburgh, NY; his sister-in-law, Barbara McNair of Beacon, NY; his brothers-in-law John McNair of Beacon, NY and Melvin Allen of Newburgh, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends. He will be sincerely missed by all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Stephanie Williams; his parents; his grandparents, Pearlie and Daniel Williams; his aunts: Blanche Williams, Camilla Moore and Julia Jones; his brother, Fredrick Williams; his sisters: Paulette Obey, Maxine Hodges, and Audrey Allen; and his sisters-in-law: Sharon McNair, Paula McNair and Arlene McNair Russell.
To share memories of Darrell, a Celebration of Life will be held in his honor for friends and family on Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 5 - 8 PM at Just Jake's, 30 Park St., Montclair, NJ 07042.
Visitation and service will be held on Monday July 24, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, NJ 07013. Burial will follow at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562.
