Obituary

Robert M. Rowan, age 77, formerly of Clifton passed away on January 30, 2024.

Capt. Rowan worked for the Clifton Police Department for 37 years, retiring in 2011. He was Captain of Detectives and the Public Information Officer. Robert received numerous commendations for excellent police work. He was a member of PBA Local # 36, and a member of the New Jersey Honor Legion.

Bob always enjoyed the JETS, dancing and music, especially Irish, 50s and disco. He spent winters in Florida and summers at the Jersey Shore. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a sponsor of Project Children. Mostly, Bob loved visits with his family.

He will be missed by his wife of 54 years, his children and their spouses, his grandchildren and many friends. Two years ago he and his wife moved to Cedar Crest in Pompton Plains.

He is described as "a true gentleman" and the "happiest person at Cedar Crest", despite having FTD (frontotemporal dementia) for the last few years. Captain Bob will remain in our hearts forever.
