Obituary

Beverly L. Duffy (née Harshaw), a beacon of unwavering love and optimism, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on March 11, 2024, in Clifton, NJ, at the venerable age of 94. Born on September 22, 1929, in Philadelphia, PA, Beverly was a cherished soul who lived a life marked by spirited enthusiasm and a dedication to her family and community.

A proud graduate of North Arlington High School and a local secretarial school, Beverly laid the foundations of her professional life at Fidelity. At that time she met the love of her life, Christian E. Duffy, whom she married and with whom she embarked on the beautiful journey of building a family. As both Beverly and Chris were only children, they shared a dream of a bustling household, which they realized with their four loving children. The Duffy home in Clifton, NJ, became a hub of warmth, laughter, and countless cherished memories.

After her youngest child began school, Beverly returned to the workforce, channeling her nurturing spirit into her career with the Clifton Board of Education. She started as a substitute secretary and soon became an irreplaceable fixture at School #8, where she was affectionately known as Mrs. Duffy. More than just a secretary, she was a nurse, friend, and confidant to the students and teachers alike, leaving a lasting impact on the many lives she touched.

Beverly's zest for life didn't wane with retirement; instead, she found new avenues to express her joyous spirit. Alongside her beloved husband, Chris, she traveled and made lifelong memories with their best friends Jack and Doris Devries. Summers were spent on Long Beach Island, where Beverly basked in the sun, her skin glistening with her favorite baby oil, amidst beach friends and the soothing sounds of the ocean. Her engagement with life extended to her participation in various senior groups, where she was a regular fixture at trips, shows, card games, and luncheons. Beverly's presence was a source of comfort and delight to all who knew her, and her absence will be deeply felt within these circles.

Beverly's legacy is lovingly carried forward by her family: her children, Richard and his wife Elaine Duffy, Daughter in Law Maureen Duffy, Cindy and her husband Jeff Hoey, David and his wife Lisa Duffy; her grandchildren, Kerry and Meaghan Duffy, Matthew and Allison Hoey, Anastascia and Joseph Duffy, and Christian Duffy; and her great-grandchildren, Kiernan, Liam, Emma, and Savannah. She is preceded in death by her husband, Christian E. Duffy, her son, Jeffrey and her grandson, Jimmy Hoey.

Those who knew Beverly will remember her as the embodiment of love, optimism, and spirit. Her unwavering support and unconditional love as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother were her greatest gifts to the world. Beverly's ability to see the good in every situation and her tireless dedication to her family and friends have left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Beverly L. Duffy's story is one of a life well-lived, filled with joy, service, and an enduring commitment to the ones she loved. As her family and friends bid her farewell, they take comfort in knowing that her legacy will continue to inspire and guide them, just as the warmth of the sun she so loved continues to embrace us all.
