Betty Jane (Geiskopf) Varley, 92, of Woodland Park, passed away on January 24, 2018. Born in Massachusetts, she lived in Teaneck, Oradell, Japan and Hawaii, before moving to Woodland Park.
A professional dancer and model, Betty Jane studied under George Balanchine, and went on to have a long career in show business. She performed in the Broadway musical
Showboat
and danced at the Glass Hat Club in NYC. She was the 1st American Female Dancer ever to perform at the Kabukiza Theater in Tokyo, Japan, in 1960-61. Betty Jane enjoyed Japanese Doll Making, traveling the world, and was a member of the Bergen County Players in Oradell. An avid tennis player, she showed obedience show dogs, specifically dachshunds, during her time living in Hawaii.
Beloved wife of the late Herbert P. Varley, Jr., who passed away in December, 2015. Devoted mother of Sharyn Hennen and her husband Jim of West Milford, and the late Donna Lee Varley who passed away in March, 2015. Loving grandmother of Danielle Nace, Tracy Meredith, Collette Bartels, Bonnie Hennen and Erik Tronolone. Cherished great grandmother of Madison Meredith, Aidan, Emmagrace, Juliana and Tyler Bartels, and Summer Tronolone.
Funeral services and burial will be private under the direction of the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton.
