Barry David Katz, 89, of Kinnelon, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones, on May 11, 2025. Born in Paterson, Barry lived there, in Tennessee and in Clifton before settling in Kinnelon. A proud US Navy Korean War Veteran, Barry worked as a Sergeant for the Passaic County Sheriff's Department, Wayne, for 25 years, before retiring in 1997. A devoted member of the NJ Honor Legion, Barry enjoyed deep-sea fishing and spending time with family and friends down the shore. He also enjoyed playing Solitaire online and listening to country music and the oldies.
Beloved husband for 53 years of Sharon (Dodd) Katz. Devoted father of Deborah Lynn Katz-Midyett and her husband Nicholas, Stacey Lynn Katz, Jason David Katz and his wife Heather, Justin Thomas Katz and his wife Melanie and the late David Bernard Katz, who passed away in 1967. Loving grandfather of Brittany Poole and her husband Joseph, Demi Davis and her husband Blake, Alicia Peterson, Tyler Katz, Christian Katz, Kyle Katz and Nathan Katz.
Cherished great-grandfather of Connor, Carson, Jaxon and Hayden Mae. Dear brother of the late Lora Lee Sciuto, Shirley Ann LaCaillaide, and Beverly Passanante. Loving brother-in-law of Thomas Dodd and his wife, Blanca and Kevin Dodd and his wife, Carmela. He will also be greatly missed by many nephews and nieces. Barry touched the lives of many and his loss will be felt greatly by all his cherished friends including his canine companions, Autumn and Sydney.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, May 15th, from 2–7:00 PM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 16th, 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment to follow, East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to The Alzheimer's Association, www.ALZ.org , or to the Visiting Nurse Association of Northern New Jersey, www.vnannj.org would be greatly appreciated.
