Barbara Schaefer Alden , 92, of Clifton died peacefully in her home on October 5, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in 1924 and raised in Glen Ridge, Barbara was predeceased in 2003 by her husband of 55 years, Harry Ray Alden. Barbara and Ray raised their 6 children in Nutley, where they lived for many years.

Barbara is survived by her 6 children: Marcia (Ray) Napolitano, Mary (Steve) Johnston, Peggy (Ken) Grimshaw, James (David DeSmith) Alden, Judi (Mike) Chastain, Sarah (Dave) Sorensen, as well as her loving niece and "unofficial" 6th daughter Chris (Fred) Czerwinski. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Molly Rose, Katie, Kelly, Jessica, Paul, Katherine, Michael, Samantha, Matthew, Jack, Taylor and Beth, as well as 7 great-grandchildren: Everett, Elliott, Robyn, Mia, Kasper, Frankie, and Wilbur.

Barbara was also blessed by the love and presence of her group of dear friends who also lived in the same apartment building in Clifton.

There will be a M emorial G athering Thursday 10/12/2017 from 4-8 PM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. A Memorial S ervice will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 200 Highfield Lane, Nutley, on Friday 10/13/2017 at 11 AM. A repast will follow the service in the Parish Hall, and all are welcome to attend.
