Obituary

Alfonso John Izzi, 85, of Wayne, NJ passed away on May 20, 2026.

A decorated Army Captain, a brilliant financial mind, an entrepreneur & writer, lifelong athlete and a wonderful, fun & loving Father & Grandfather, Al lived a big life defined by honor, strategic thinking and high achievement that shaped his success. He was forever the entertainer with a sarcastic wit and clever sense of humor that made everyone laugh. He was the ultimate family man, who loved and cared for all throughout his life.

Born in 1940 in Providence, RI to Alfonso and Teresa Izzi, he earned a degree in Business Administration from Providence College and a Masters Degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of CT. He answered the call of duty early in life & proudly served as a decorated Captain in the United States Army Airborne division during the Vietnam War (1966 - 1968). He lived in Greenwich, CT, Clifton and Little Falls NJ before moving to Wayne. 

Al was a widely respected business educator, financial & corporate leader, entrepreneur & author. Known for his sharp analytical mind he began his career at IBM & Pfizer before becoming the Executive Director of FISA in NYC. Al was CEO of PTR Resources LTD & President & CEO of Computil. He wrote & published the book “Entrepreneurs! Your Small Business, Do it Right.” He was a Financial Consultant for the SBDC of New Jersey for many years before retiring in 2022, Al was a respected and loved Professor of Finance at NJIT, William Paterson and Montclair State University.

A gifted lifelong athlete, Al was a baseball superstar in his early years and later a USTA tennis pro & avid year round golfer. He was a long time member of the PGA Partners Club, The Milbrook Club and Crystal Springs Golf Club. He achieved his coveted hole-in-one in 2018. When not on the course, he loved to cook Italian cuisine for his family, watch movies, eat chocolates, smoke his pipe and drink scotch on the rocks.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joanne Marie Izzi, his parents, Al & Teresa Izzi, his son-in-law Sal Cucco and his youngest brother Ralph Izzi. He is survived by his children Michael Izzi (Tracey Izzi), Paula Cucco, Claudia Izzi, Nicole Corbisiero, Marc Ward and Alexandra Izzi. His grandchildren Giovanni Cucco, Christopher Izzi, Cameron Izzi, Victoria Izzi, Marisa Martello (Ralph Martello), Danny Corbisiero & Mariana Arnone, his brother John Izzi (Florence Izzi), his sister-in-law Jacqueline Izzi, Goddaughter Christine Lee (Frank Lee), nephew Ralph Izzi (Maria Izzi), and Niece Marilyn Vengroff (Brett Vengroff), great grandson Augustine Izzi, many nieces, nephews, friends & granddoggys Nuggy & Tony. He was a one of a kind superman that will be sadly missed by all who loved him, especially his loving doggy Chancho.

Visiting Hours Saturday, May 30, 2026, 2-4 PM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, NJ. Prayer Service will begin at 3 PM, followed by the Presentation of Military Honors.
